Armenian fighter Grigor Matevosyan (14–6) has announced his retirement from professional mixed martial arts at the age of 32. The decision came after his loss to Ruslan Gabaraev at the ACA 200 event, which took place on February 6 in Moscow.
The bout went the full distance and ended with Gabaraev winning by unanimous decision. Immediately after the result was announced, Matevosyan symbolically placed his gloves in the center of the octagon and stated in his post-fight interview that he no longer plans to compete in MMA.
Representing Sochi, Matevosyan has competed in the ACA promotion since 2019. During this period, he fought 14 bouts in the organization, earning 10 victories and suffering 4 defeats, establishing himself as one of the most consistent and recognizable light heavyweights in the league.
Matevosyan challenged for the ACA light heavyweight title twice, facing Muslim Magomedov on both occasions, but fell short in those championship fights.
Despite never capturing the title, Matevosyan left a significant mark in the history of the ACA and is remembered by fans for his exciting fights and strong character. It is possible that the retirement decision was made in the heat of the moment, as 32 is far from a critical age for a light heavyweight.
Nevertheless, as of now, Grigor Matevosyan has officially put an end to his MMA career. We wish him success and good fortune in all his future endeavors, both in sports and beyond.
