Armenian representative Elina Avanesyan (WTA 367) continues her strong performance at the WTA 125 tournament in Madrid. In the Round of 16, she defeated British tennis player Francesca Jones (WTA 100) in straight sets, 6–2, 6–2.
Earlier, the Armenian tennis player beat Spain’s Andrea Lázaro García, ranked 146th in the world. The match ended in Avanesyan’s favor with a score of 6–4, 7–5.
In both matches, the Armenian athlete demonstrated consistent baseline play and confidently handled key points at the end of each set.
Previously, in the qualification stage, Avanesyan successfully defeated two opponents — France’s Selena Janicijevic and Ekaterina Kazionova — which allowed her to enter the main draw.
The Madrid tournament remains an important stage for earning ranking points. The start of the year was difficult for Avanesyan: after returning from injury, she struggled to get past even one opponent in lower-tier events. However, her current form gives strong reason for optimism.
