Wrestling World Championships 2025: All finalists of Day 1 confirmed

On September 13, the 2025 Wrestling World Championships kicked off in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. On the first day, preliminary bouts and semifinals were held in four freestyle weight categories: 61, 70, 86, and 125 kg. The finalists in all these divisions have already been determined.

The finals will take place on September 14 at 18:00 Zagreb time.

By the end of Day 1, two wrestlers each from Japan and Iran, as well as one representative from Russia, Mongolia, the USA, and Azerbaijan, secured their spots in the finals.

Armenia was represented on the first day by Manvel Khndrdzyan (61 kg) and Arman Andreasyan (70 kg). Both remain in contention for medals. Andreasyan lost in the semifinal and will fight directly for bronze. Khndrdzyan was defeated in the Round of 16 by eventual finalist Zaur Uguev and will continue in the repechage, seeking a chance to compete for third place.

The most dramatic bout took place in the 86 kg semifinal. Japan’s Hayato Ishiguro, trailing Rahim Magamadov (France) 1:7, launched a series of successful moves and claimed a technical victory — 17:7.

125 kg:

On September 14, wrestlers in four more weight categories (57, 74, 79, and 92 kg) will begin their matches in Zagreb.
Armenia will be represented by Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) and Grayr Alikhanyan (74 kg).
