The Armenian national team has completed its participation at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Armenian athletes competed in three sports: figure skating, cross-country skiing, and alpine skiing.
Hope for the Future — Figure Skating
The standout performance for Team Armenia came from the pair Karina Akopova / Nikita Rakhmanin. In the pairs competition, the Armenian duo placed 14th out of 19 teams, delivering a confident skate and showing clear progress. Their performance brings optimism ahead of the next Olympic cycle, as the pair has strong potential for further growth.
Experience and a worthy conclusion
In cross-country skiing, Armenia was represented by Mikael Mikaelyan and Katya Galstyan.
For Mikael Mikaelyan, this was his third Olympic appearance. He finished 48th out of 75 in the skiathlon and 53rd out of 113 in the 10 km freestyle race. Considering the high level of competition, these results can be described as respectable. The 2026 Olympics will likely mark the end of his Olympic career.
Katya Galstyan competed in her fourth Olympic Games. She placed 69th out of 70 in the skiathlon and 82nd out of 109 in the 10 km freestyle. With high probability, this was also her final Olympic appearance.
Alpine Skiing: Expectations and Questions
In alpine skiing, Armenia was represented by Harutyun Harutyunyan. He placed 59th out of 91 in the giant slalom and did not finish the slalom event, ranking 37th after the first run among 96 competitors.
Overall, the results met expectations but could have been better. It is worth noting that Gleb Mosesov, who had a higher ranking, was also a candidate for Olympic selection in this discipline, but the final decision favored Harutyunyan.
